Tell us what you are looking forAl Seef is a waterfront district on the Bur Dubai side of Dubai Creek, built by Meraas, where a heritage area of sand-coloured buildings and narrow lanes sits beside a more contemporary promenade of cafes and restaurants. People search for it as Al Seef, Al Seef Dubai and Al Seef Street. It is a place to visit, not a residential community in its own right.
Al Seef lies on Dubai Creek in Bur Dubai, which Visit Dubai calls the city's oldest neighbourhood and which reflects Dubai's trading origins along the Creek. The same official guide lists Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Al Shindagha, Creek Park and Al Seef as parts of Bur Dubai. Across the water is Deira. Our Bur Dubai community page and Deira community page cover the two sides of the Creek.
According to Visit Dubai, Al Seef runs along about 1.8 km of Dubai Creek and covers 2.5 million sq ft in total. It opened to the public in December 2017, and its stated aim is to celebrate the Creek's beginnings as a coastal pearl diving base. It has two sections: a heritage area with old-style architecture, and a second space with more contemporary structures.
The heritage side has sand-coloured buildings, narrow sikkas (alleys) and traditional wind towers. Boutique shops, art galleries and open-air markets sit here, and Souk Al Seef recalls the traditional souks of the Creek. Visit Dubai also lists Al Seef Heritage Hotel here. If you want more of old Dubai on the same trip, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and the Al Shindagha Museum, run by Dubai Culture, are in Bur Dubai.
The contemporary section has waterfront terraces with views across the Creek. Visit Dubai counts more than 70 cafes and restaurants across Al Seef. Dubai Municipality's Creek Lights project includes Al Seef Marina among the six areas it plans to light at night.
By metro, Visit Dubai says the closest station is Sharaf DG on the Green Line, followed by a short walk. By bus, RTA says to take Bus C07 from BurJuman Metro Station to Al Seef Marine Station. By water, RTA's Al Seef marine route includes:
| Service | RTA detail |
|---|---|
| Petrol abra | Al Seef, Baniyas, Old Souq and Al Ghubaiba; AED 2 per trip |
| Abra hours | Saturday to Thursday 07:00 to 22:00; Fridays and public holidays 10:00 to 00:00 |
| Tourist ferry | One-hour round trips from Al Seef, departing when 8 passengers are on board |
| Friday commuter ferry | Al Jaddaf, Al Seef and Al Ghubaiba |
RTA's page is an older promotion, so check current timetables and fares on the RTA site before you travel. Children under 2 ride free on the RTA services listed.
Al Seef is a visitor destination, and we have no official source on homes inside it. If you want to live nearby, look at the surrounding areas of Bur Dubai and Deira. Start with the Bur Dubai community page and the Deira community page, and read our complete tenant guide before you sign. Visit Dubai also describes the surrounding Bur Dubai area as full of traditional markets, local dining and maritime atmosphere.
Allow time for both halves of the district. Start in the heritage area while it is quiet, follow the promenade along the Creek to the modern section, and finish with an abra ride or a cruise. RTA lists the petrol abra on the route at AED 2 per trip, so a Creek crossing is a cheap way to see Bur Dubai from the water. Tourist ferries depart only when 8 passengers are on board, so expect a wait outside busy hours. Opening hours differ between shops, cafes and attractions, so check each venue before you go.
The Al Seef marine route also connects to Al Ghubaiba, which RTA describes as a key marine transit station linked to metro and bus. That makes it possible to combine a Creek ride with the Dubai Metro. For a wider day out, pair Al Seef with the museums and old houses in Al Fahidi and Al Shindagha, all within Bur Dubai.
Al Seef is part of old Dubai on the Creek. If you are comparing it with newer waterfront districts, our guide to Dubai Creek Harbour covers a newer community at another stretch of the same Creek, and the best areas to live in Dubai helps you compare districts.
