Dubai Internet City is a business free zone, not a residential community, and that catches people out. It is where a large number of technology companies have their regional offices, and almost nobody lives inside it.

What it actually is

A campus of office buildings off Sheikh Zayed Road, between Dubai Marina and Al Sufouh, sharing a district with Dubai Media City and Knowledge Village. It has its own metro station, a hotel, and a good deal of food and beverage serving the working population. What it does not have is residential stock to speak of.

So if you are searching for property in Dubai Internet City, what you almost certainly want is somewhere to live within a short commute of it.

Where to live if you work there

The Greens and The Views. The closest genuinely residential option, low rise, landscaped, and walkable to the metro. This is the natural answer for most people working in the free zone.
Dubai Marina. A short drive or one metro stop, far more to do, denser and noisier.
Al Sufouh. Quieter and more expensive, low density, coastal.
Barsha Heights, formerly Tecom. Immediately inland, cheaper, and the most convenient of all if you want to walk to work.
Al Furjan or Discovery Gardens, if you want space or a townhouse and will accept a fifteen to twenty minute drive.

What to weigh

Whether you want to walk, drive or take the metro, because that single decision narrows the list more than budget does.
The direction of your commute. Sheikh Zayed Road northbound in the morning is the constraint, and living on the correct side of it matters.
Whether you need a garden. If you do, you are looking at Al Furjan or further out, and a longer drive.
Service charges, which vary widely between the low rise Greens stock and the Marina towers.
